#36 The Last Road!

Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 36 of our spin-off show about the weird world of softcore skin-flicks!

It’s part two of our softcore racing double feature this time, Made for TV Mayhem's Amanda joins us to check out 1998’s softcore dustbowl dirt and drag race epic, The Last Road (aka Speedway). It’s sort of about Maggie, a rural mechanic desperate to protect her dead fiance’s winning streak record from shithead race-bro Billy Chase, when former Air Force Captain Harry G. Lonnigan arrives in town and offers to race against Billy. But also it’s about a poor woman stuck in a spiral of grief and toxic masculinity. And it’s also about a weird guy named Billy with zero interpersonal skills who’s been picked on all his life and has only ever been good at one thing - racing - and likes to refer to himself in the third person as much as possible. This film has one of the weirdest sex scenes you’ll ever see. It also has a shock ending right out of ‘70s cinema. We do talk about the ending and viciously spoil it, because we had to. It is too alarming not to.

Plus, we talk about the life and times of the film’s director, TV’s very own Clark Brandon! Maybe you know him from The Facts of Life, on which he played Jo’s boyfriend. Or maybe you know him from late ‘80s sex drug burger comedy Fast Food (which he also co-wrote). Maybe you even know him from Out of the Blue, or Mr Merlin, the remarkably unsuccessful early ‘80s sitcoms he appeared in?
