Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 65 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject!
This time around, we dip into the weird and varied collection that is Playboy’s Inside Out anthology series, starting - appropriately enough - with the first volume, and joining us in this venture is the great Bobby, from the Grindbin Podcast. We talk about the background of the series, and its links to music videos, and music video legends like Nigel Dick, David Fincher, and more! Even more amazingly (for some of the cast, at least) we talk about its links to EA’s SSX snowboarding series of video games - the greatest snowboarding games ever made!
Each of the four volumes released by Playboy contain 9 shorts. For one thing, this means that only 37 shorts ever made to home video, out of the 74 produced for the series when it aired on the Playboy Channel. For another thing, this means there’s a heck of a lot of actors and directors involved in even one of these videos, so in the interests of brevity, we’ve cut the Softcore Spotlight this time around. However, you’ll still hear about the background of creators like incredible writer-director Lizzie Borden, Hellbound: Hellraiser II director Tony Randel, Supergirl TV series creator Ali Adler, and Alexander Payne, who went on to direct Election and Sideways (also weirdly he co-wrote Jurassic Park III with Jim Taylor, who also works with him here).
It’s a pretty oddball bunch, but then, it’s a pretty oddball series!
